About Me

Hi, I'm Milos Despotovic. I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor who works with people who are facing challenges with sex and relationships. Often the people I work with have also gone through adversities or traumatic experiences in the past which might be contributing to their present challenges. My goal is to help you end anxiety, frustration, and struggle and to help you come into a place where life feels fulfilling, joyful, and meaningful again.

My own growth through the personal life struggles and relationship challenges that I’ve faced has given me an intimate understanding of what it means to face adversity and is what helps me relate so deeply with the people I work with. I know the anxiety and fear, the challenges that life and relationships bring, and how complex things can sometimes be. As I grew into adulthood, I slowly felt a deep call grow in my heart drawing me towards the field of therapy. That call is as strong as ever today, and I am profoundly grateful to have the opportunity to work with people therapeutically.

Being a therapist is rewarding. I love helping people feel more connected and empowered and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and excited about their life.

I am committed to working together to help guide you to where life feels enjoyable again.

I have compassion for people and bring an open, non-judgemental presence to sessions

I have a natural ability to:

  • Understand people's experiences

  • Help people feel comfortable

  • Accept people for who they are and in their current life circumstances

  • Help clients heal their past and manage the present

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can be fully present for people's stories, even if they are difficult stories.

Our sessions are focused on you

Sessions will provide you with the space to be understood and heard. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to be in touch with yourself and feel what you need to feel to heal.

It's important to me to provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and to create safety within session. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

As a therapist, I embrace the following philosophies

  • I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole - their mind, body, and spirit

  • I believe that sometimes small steps in the right direction end up having the biggest impact in the end

  • I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do

  • I believe that we can stop feeling shame when we share our story with someone who can hear it with empathy and understanding

My Practice

I see a lot of young adults in my practice, as well as people who might be quite successful externally, but are experiencing inner turmoil or struggle. They often appear to be happy or “okay” to those around them, but even the closest people in their lives don’t seem to understand their struggle. I am also passionate about connection and spirituality, and nurturing this dimension of life in our modern society. This can sometimes be an element of the counselling work for those who find it important and relevant.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is collaborative. I tend to rely on my training in body-centred approaches and bring in an openness to the therapeutic space, honouring however that expresses itself for each individual. At times, therapy can take a more hands-on and directive dynamic, but it is also often a space of listening - my listening to you, but also you listening to deeper parts of yourself. The process of healing is usually both a science and an art. I bring in my knowledge and experience of this process, and together we work towards generating healing and growth.
